Background
Valkyrian was an ancient vampire sorcerer-lord and the founder and leader of The Crimson Concord. He was not a traditional villain — the Crimson Concord was his life’s work, a desperate and sincere attempt to permanently remove vampiric blood hunger from himself and his followers.
“We are not monsters. We were the only ones trying to fix it.”
His ritual came agonizingly close to success. Subjects who underwent the ritual lived for 43–47 days appearing cured — then died. The missing element was not knowledge but will: “Life must be given, not taken.” Every attempt used unwilling or partially-transformed subjects. The ritual always failed at the final step.
He used Meldir as a test subject at some point in the past. The ritual was incomplete on Meldir, leaving him with partial blood hunger — the The Blood Curse.
The Fight (March 29)
A three-phase encounter in the Concord’s obsidian tomb on the Sea of Moving Ice.
Lair Actions included:
- Animated chains
- Blood vein eruptions from the floor
- Wound-specters rising from fallen enemies
During the fight: The ritual circle offered Meldir a blood gift, which he accepted — transforming his left arm into a crimson crystalline construct (Heartbound Sanguine Focus).
Alaric Razor nearly died twice during this fight; Kelrick Counterspelled a Vampiric Touch aimed at Alaric, saving his life.
Dying Words
As Dekyna’s divine smite landed, Valkyrian turned to Meldir and said:
“You… you will be it.”
Meaning unknown.
