The Crimson Concord

Type: Organization — Vampires seeking a cure for blood hunger Status: Leadership destroyed; surviving members scattered Connection: Meldir’s blood curse; The Blood Curse cure quest

A secret order of vampires who sought to permanently remove blood hunger from themselves and their kind. They were not a predatory cult — they were desperate scholars trying to fix what they were.

“We are not monsters. We were the only ones trying to fix it.”

Their leader, Valkyrian, was killed by Dekyna on March 29. The Concord’s work is unfinished.

The Tomb

The Concord’s obsidian tomb is carved into a mountainside on the Sea of Moving Ice. Explored by the party starting March 22.

What was found inside:

  • A ritual sanctum with a basin and inscribed tablets
  • One tablet bore Meldir’s face — he was a known test subject
  • A vampire in a coffin who died approximately 47 days post-ritual — confirming the cure was close but incomplete
  • Three ghostly scholars (research projections) arguing over methodology in the sanctum
  • Research notes (150-250 GP value) recovered by the party

The Ritual

The Concord developed a ritual to permanently remove vampiric blood hunger. The ritual requires four components:

ComponentNotes
Vampire HeartCore magical component
Ritual ResidueCrystallized heart fluid
A SurvivorSomeone who survived a previous ritual attempt
A CrystalType unspecified

The Critical Failure: “Life must be given, not taken.”

Every Concord attempt failed for the same reason: they used unwilling or partially-transformed subjects. Subjects would survive the ritual and appear cured — then die 43–47 days later. The ritual was not wrong. The sacrifice was.

The ritual space itself recognized Meldir as a known subject. The basin offered him a gift of healing during the fight with Valkyrian, which he accepted.

Valkyrian’s Final Words

When killed, Valkyrian spoke directly to Meldir:

“You… you will be it.”

Meaning unknown.
