Session — March 1, 2026

Date: March 1, 2026 Location(s): Dwarven Valley Mine → Dwarven Valley → Targos → Lonelywood Inn Present: Meldir, Nalla, Thorkin, Dax, Kelrick, Dekyna, Bombdeer (NPC), Jarthara

Summary

The party wrapped up the Chardalyn Cavern: Thorkin woke from his madness coma, they returned to the Dwarven Valley, sold loot, bought mounts, and had a shopping trip. Thorkin reunited with Bombdeer and recruited him as the inn manager. The party returned to Lonelywood, welcomed a mysterious new guest named Vae (an old friend of Kelrick’s, a drow in disguise), and learned Kelrick’s noble brother has been searching for him. The session ended with Bombdeer joining the inn and major inn upgrades underway.

Events

Waking Thorkin + Leaving the Mine

  • Thorkin regained consciousness after 9 hours — had no memory of what happened, only knew he touched something and passed out
  • The blessing from the dwarven shrine had expired; Nalla re-applied the dirt to the statue’s hand → blessing renewed for 8 more hours (5 temp HP + poison resistance for all nearby)
  • Trap disarmed by Kelrick in the front room; party cleared the front entry area
  • Fred the awakened tree needed to be helped through the rubble and out of the mine — took creative effort but succeeded
  • Ruby (Dane’s elemental pet) was sent into the cleared mine to consume the remaining Chardalyn
  • Dwarves cheered as the party emerged with an awakened tree, an owlbear, and a dire wolf

Dwarven Valley — Farewells and Shopping

  • Dane paid out: 250 GP in gemstones + 10% permanent discount
  • Plus one weapons and Mithril armor available at the Dwarven Valley smith — too expensive for now (1000 GP for +1 weapon, 800 GP for Mithril armor above base price)
  • Bombdeer agreed to come with the party to manage the Lonelywood Inn; said goodbye to Dane and his research
  • Bombdeer confirmed he is researching the Thorkin/Meldir connection and what links their curses; believes Auril is involved
  • Party departed on the road south

Road Encounter — Awakened Bear

  • Encountered a lone talking bear wandering the tundra
  • Bear had been awakened by Ravisin (the now-dead druid they fought earlier)
  • Bear was still heading to Ravisin’s location to receive new orders — unaware she was dead
  • Thorkin performed “Ravisin speaking from beyond” using Thaumaturgy (booming voice + black eyes) → successfully convinced the bear Ravisin was dead and freed it from its obligation. Told it about a spirit grove nearby as a potential home
  • Bear departed peacefully

Targos — Brief Stop

  • Stopped to collect reward from the rescued climber (the man saved from a Yeti encounter some sessions back)
  • He had no money but offered four carved wooden figurines (10 GP each)
  • Party collected and moved on toward Lonelywood

Return to the Lonelywood Inn

  • Party arrived late evening — everyone exhausted
  • Inn upgrades proposed and set in motion during a week of downtime

A Mysterious Visitor — Vae

  • The kobold Drex informed Kelrick a visitor was waiting behind the rival tavern
  • Kelrick met privately with Vae, a female drow with a prison brand on her neck and road-worn appearance
  • They clearly know each other well; shared history from a dangerous escape (from a vault or prison)
  • Vae revealed Kelrick’s noble brother had been at the inn for a week waiting for him, then left — believing Kelrick wouldn’t come back
  • The brother is likely a threat to both Kelrick and Vae; Kelrick confirmed his brother is now aware he’s here
  • Kelrick gave Vae his cold weather gear (crampons, snowshoes, cold clothes) and arranged for her to stay in the inn’s basement in disguise
  • Vae disguised herself as a normal human barmaid using magic

Kelrick Introduced Vae to the Party

  • Party was briefed: Kelrick’s brother is a noble and is looking for Kelrick (and Vae)
  • If the brother returns, party was asked to act normal and not confirm Kelrick’s location
  • Dax (with a high Insight roll) noticed the prison brand on Vae’s neck before she disguised herself; recognized it as a tattoo from Rivet’s End — the only prison in Icewind Dale. Filed that away privately
  • Nalla recognized the brand’s significance immediately; kept it to herself

Inn Upgrades During Downtime Week

  • Greenhouse built behind the inn for mushroom growing and herb cultivation
  • Goblins assigned: 3 fishing with the Cup of Good Fishing; 3 hunting/foraging for herbs and mushrooms
  • Fred the awakened tree given a spot in the courtyard/greenhouse as gardener
  • Clay and Hugo (the berry bushes) placed in the greenhouse to grow; Clay sprouted her first herb sprout independently
  • Bombdeer officially joined as inn manager (revenue +1, expenses -1)
  • Alchemy Jug left at the inn as beverage supply (beer, wine, water)
  • Kobolds running the bar, cooking, and front-of-house operations

Inn Income Roll (this week)

  • Revenue: 11 gold × 7 days = 77 GP
  • Expenses: 2 gold × 7 days = 14 GP
  • Event: Noble Guest stayed (a noble booked the inn) → 2d8 × 5 = 40 GP bonus
  • Total earned: approximately 103 GP

Combat

  • None this session

NPCs Encountered

  • Bombdeer — Thorkin’s twin brother; now inn manager; researching Auril’s curse connection
  • Vae — Kelrick’s old friend (drow); escaped from Rivet’s End prison; now hiding at the inn in disguise
  • Kelrick’s unnamed noble brother — not yet encountered in person; searching for Kelrick
  • Awakened Bear (Ravisin’s former servant) — peacefully released from service

Quest Updates

  • Chardalyn Cavern — Fully complete; Ruby finished the cleanup
  • The Arcane Brotherhood — Kelrick’s noble brother connection may tie into this; note for future
  • Black Cabin — Next major quest; party agrees this is the priority
  • Inn management — Stable and profitable; Bombdeer in charge

Loot & Items

  • 4 carved wooden figurines (40 GP total value)
  • 250 GP gems (from Dane — already distributed)
  • Multiple gemstones and duergar armor sold throughout

Character Moments

  • Thorkin’s “Ravisin from beyond” performance was a major roleplay highlight — party nearly died laughing
  • Kelrick’s secret past began to surface; Vae’s appearance confirmed he has a hidden history
  • Dax quietly observed everything and filed it away — “the person who knows everyone’s secrets without trying”
  • Bombdeer meeting the party’s menagerie (awakened tree, goblins, kobolds, owlbear, giant elk, dire wolf) for the first time: “Is it worse than this?” — Party: “Not yet.”
  • Fred the tree got paper origami birds put in his branches by Nalla since real birds couldn’t survive the frozen winter
  • Party debated group names: briefly considered “The Wardens,” “Ghost Elk Brotherhood,” etc. — ultimately the Dwarves christened the mine hall after them as the UwU (Unordained Warden Unit)

Session End State

Party is at the Lonelywood Inn, settled in after a week of downtime. Vae is hidden in the basement. Bombdeer is managing the inn. Kelrick’s noble brother has already visited and left — but will likely return. Next session: heading to the Black Cabin.
