Session — March 15, 2026
Date: March 15, 2026 Location(s): Black Cabin → Lonelywood Inn → Bryn Shander Present: Meldir, Nalla, Thorkin, Dax, Kelrick, Dekyna; Oymanonak (Oyam) NPC
Summary
After the Black Cabin victory, the party returned to the Lonelywood Inn for a week of downtime (additional crafting/learning), then traveled to Bryn Shander for shopping and important NPC meetings. They received a letter from an Arcane Brotherhood arcanist (Alaric Razor) about progress on Meldir’s blood curse and Dax’s shadow curse. They also met a gnome wizard named Larry Grazer who had more to offer. A mysterious message in a bottle from the Arcane Brotherhood warned of a buried city beneath the glacier. The session ended with the party preparing for their next journey: to the Sea of Moving Ice to find a cure for Meldir and Dax.
Events
After the Cabin — Brief Downtime
- Party returned to Lonelywood Inn; another week of downtime before heading to Bryn Shander
- Inn updates finalized: greenhouse operational, Fred the tree helping cultivate, Clay and Hugo (now mobile) gardening
Dekyna’s Week
- Solo trip to Bremen; dug up the second half of the Storm Tablet from the frozen riverbank
- The two halves now joined → full map revealed; the runes say: “Seek the moot of the Jarls…”
- Looked for Kelrick for an Arcana check — determined the tablet is ancient Giant magic, linked to Storm Giant traditions
- Hidden runes appeared when both halves joined: “Let the unworthy freeze and the worthy be known”
Kelrick’s Week
- Continued potion experiments
- Volatile Heat Tonic — still unexplained, bubbling, warm
- Frost Drake Draught confirmed: 5 temp HP + advantage on next CON save vs. exhaustion within 1 hour
- Vae visited his room; brief RP scene where she commented on his experiments and shared some knowledge about potion ingredients
Dax’s Week
- Kitchen experiments with Sork; the bread exploded again; earned Cook’s Utensils proficiency
- Made a batch of Ember Biscuits (ignore cold discomfort for 1 hour)
Thorkin’s Week
- More kitchen time with Skorp (the chaotic kobold chef)
- Made Tundra Jerky supply for the road
Nalla’s Week
- Greenhouse work; Clay and Hugo growing
- Unknown frost-resistant herb found by Fred in the soil; nature roll not high enough to identify it
Meldir’s Week (in his room)
- Gemcrafting attempts
- Made a poorly-cut focus gem (worth ~10 GP) + leftover Enchantment Powder
- Made a Fader Gem — looks like moonlight trapped in glass; once per day activates to shed 10 ft of dim blue light; gave it to Dax (fits perfectly into his bead necklace, which already depicted this)
Inn Income (2nd week)
- Revenue: 7 × 7 = 49 GP (adjusted for staff/upgrades)
- Plus Bombdeer’s contribution
- Event roll: high → successful week
Travel to Bryn Shander
- Party purchased and trained on Axe Beaks (50 GP each + 14 GP saddle/bags + 10 GP training = 74 GP per person)
- Alaric Razor accompanied them on his own Axe Beak
- Travel: Lonelywood → Termaline (2 hrs) → Bryn Shander (~4 hrs); Meldir navigated with Navigator’s Tools, cutting 2 hours off travel
- En route: passed a group of 4-5 Goliaths from the Tunalaka clan (Nalla’s rival clan); Nalla stayed hidden; Meldir chatted briefly with them — they are hunters, not a threat
Shopping in Bryn Shander
Selling
- 6 gemstones (2 × 10 GP, 2 × 50 GP, 2 × 100 GP) = 320 GP
- 2 gold ingots (25 GP each) = 50 GP
- 6 banded agate gems = 60 GP
- Magical dagger made of Chardalyn shard (sold to Abel’s Arcana for 850 GP after persuasion; Thorkin privately warned Meldir but let it go)
Buying
- Axe Beaks for Thorkin, Dax, Kelrick, and Nalla (Meldir and Dekyna already had mounts/cloak-mount)
- Kelrick: spell book (12 spells; sold old spell book back for 625 GP; net cost 145 GP)
- Meldir: mundane rings and bracers for enchanting experiments
- Dax: leather bracers, mundane rings
- Kelrick: bought rings to enchant (future project: Rings of Mind Shielding)
- Winter clothing for everyone
- Road supplies, rations, ingredients for cooking on the road
Meeting Alaric Razor — Tower of the Gnomes
- Alaric Razor recognized the party and let them in
- On Meldir’s curse: Alaric confirmed the blood hunger ritual was incomplete — something went wrong. The vampire(s) who performed it tried to move their blood lust to Meldir but didn’t finish. He found something on the Sea of Moving Ice that might hold a solution (a tomb or ruin)
- On Dax’s curse: The shadow-cutting ritual is forbidden — banned by Mystra herself. Someone performed an ancient Netherese white magic ritual and removed Dax’s shadow. The shadow now wants its life back. Remedy items: Needle of Night, Thread of Living Gloom, Willing Submission (written in Alaric’s notebook)
- Alaric wants to accompany the party to the Sea of Moving Ice; said he needs 2 days to prepare
- He owns an Axe Beak — already prepared
Meeting Larry Grazer — The Other Gnome Wizard
- Found at the House of the Morning Lord in Bryn Shander
- Larry was the friend of Copper Gnobberknocker — the same gnome who’d asked the party to check on Maseridis in the Black Cabin
- Larry’s letter had already reached the party (message in a bottle via goblin fishing); he knew something of both curses
- Larry confirmed Maseridis is dead and was devastated
- Offered free healing at the temple whenever the party is in Bryn Shander
Message in a Bottle
- A goblin found the bottle while fishing near the inn; brought it to the party in Bryn Shander
- Seal: Arcane Brotherhood (a wizard’s guild from Luskan that wants political and economic control of the North)
- Contents: A desperate message from a Brotherhood member who found a buried ruin beneath the glacier — ancient, pre-Netherese. He killed members of his expedition to keep the location secret; feels guilt; warns that others in the Brotherhood will use it for ill. If he fails to reach Bryn Shander, the map fragment is hidden in a tower buried in ice north of the Spine of the World.
- Alaric confirmed he’s heard of this — pointed to a general area on the map (northeast)
- This is likely connected to the Thalmor Expedition quest
Rumors Gathered at an Inn
- Nalla: Sea of Moving Ice — a magical underwater rail transport between islands; a bell on the shore summons it (directly relevant to their journey)
- Meldir: Something fell from the sky near the Spine of the World weeks ago (likely the Illithid nautiloid crash site — Meldir’s origin)
- Kelrick: The “evil wizard in East Haven” was burned at a stake; before dying he revealed the location of a buried tower north of the Spine — Kelrick obtained this location through great roleplay (Thorkin fake-cried with magical tears while Kelrick asked sympathetically)
- Kelrick also learned the tower’s location from the locals (general area northeast, same region as Alaric’s clue)
Wretched Tribe Rumor
- The Wretched Tribe (nomadic Goliath warriors) are attempting to challenge Auril/the Frostmaiden
- Northwest of Bremen; mobile camp
- Could be allies in the long run
Combat
- None this session
NPCs Encountered
- Alaric Razor — gnome arcanist, now traveling with the party to the Sea of Moving Ice; has researched both curses
- Larry Grazer — gnome wizard at the House of the Morning Lord; Copper’s friend; devastated by Maseridis’s death; offered free healing
- Sork and Skorp — kobold chefs continuing to teach party members recipes
Quest Updates
- Illithid Ship — Meldir’s crashed nautiloid may be the falling object spotted near the Spine; still pending investigation
- Prove Yourself at Jarlmoot — Storm tablet location confirmed; Jarlmoot is in the Spine of the World area
- The Arcane Brotherhood — Message in a bottle confirmed Brotherhood is actively searching for the buried glacier city; conflict incoming
- Thalmor Expedition — City Under the Glacier — Directly connected to the Brotherhood message; map fragment in a buried tower
- Meldir’s Curse / Dax’s Curse — Alaric identified the nature of both curses; possible cure in Sea of Moving Ice
- Next Destination: Sea of Moving Ice with Alaric Razor
Loot & Items
- Kelrick: New spell book (12 spells), Calligrapher’s kit, blank parchment
- Dax: Fader Gem (from Meldir), mundane bracers for enchanting
- Party: 850 GP from dagger sale; significant shopping completed
- 6 gemstones from the Black Cabin (sold)
Character Moments
- Thorkin’s fake-cry performance for the locals to get the tower location was a party highlight — he cast Thaumaturgy for weeping eyes, drank a pint while “grieving,” then stone-faced walked away
- Meldir selling the Chardalyn dagger despite Thorkin’s quiet objection — “I have more Chardalyn at home” (he does not)
- Nalla hiding from her rival Goliath clan while Meldir cheerfully chatted with them
- The party collectively discovering that Dax’s curse is Mystra-level forbidden magic — “…who did you piss off?”
- Dax receiving the Fader Gem necklace — it was already depicted in his character art. The party noticed.
Session End State
Party is in Bryn Shander; supplies purchased, Alaric has 2 days to prepare. The party will wait, then depart for the Sea of Moving Ice — a 10-day journey. Kelrick holds the Summer Star orb. Vae is still hiding at the inn. The buried city beneath the glacier and the Brotherhood’s interest in it is a looming threat. Wretched Tribe nomads are potentially contactable. Both curses have names and a possible cure location.
